Hi, I’m Zheng Hu — a Staff Software Engineer with deep roots in big data infrastructure and open-source communities. I’m a PMC member of Apache HBase and Apache Iceberg, and the author of the book ‘HBase Principles and Practice’. Over the past decade, I’ve worked at Databricks, ByteDance, Alibaba Cloud, Xiaomi, and more, building large-scale systems in cloud data platforms, distributed filesystems, and data lake analytics.
Currently, I’m at Databricks, working on the lakehouse platform and open-source data technologies. Previously, I led the EMR open-source engine team at ByteDance, where I built foundational services like Proton, a distributed filesystem optimized for object storage, and launched a fully-managed StarRocks analytics service. I actively contribute to open-source, speak at conferences like Flink Forward and HBaseCon, and share technical insights on my blog.
Feel free to connect or explore my work, and I’m always passionate about scalable systems, data infra, and open source tech.
